Common Skincare Myths Busted!

Common Skincare Myths Busted!

When it comes to skincare, there are a lot of misconceptions that we read online or hear about. If you are not a skincare expert, you may not be able to tell what skincare advice is a fact or a myth. Today we are going to bust some common skincare myths we hear and read about so you can give your skin the attention it deserves without fear that it will ruin your beauty in the long run.

Exfoliate everyday

Exfoliating everyday can do your skin more harm than good in the long run. Exfoliating scrubs away the top layer of your skin, and it will help you achieve a vibrant and glowing complexing if it is done 2-3 times a week. However, scrubbing your skin every day is going to lead to dry skin, fine lines, inflammation and premature ageing. Don’t scrub your skin more than 2-3 times a week to avoid these terrible skin issues.

Wash your face many times to avoid acne

Over washing your face can strip off moisture and dry out your skin. Doing this can lead to dry, dull and tired looking skin. You don’t need to wash your face more than two times a day, in the morning when you wake up and before bed. If oily skin and acne are your concern, then opting for a moisturiser that is oil free and an acne control gel is going to be a better option than washing your face multiple times a day.

You don’t need sunscreen when there is no sun

This is a myth that we hear about a lot – if the weather is gloomy or the sun is not shining strong, you can skip your sunscreen. This is wrong, you should be wearing your sun protectant even if it is cloudy outside as the UV rays can penetrate and still harm your skin. Wearing sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather will ensure that your skin will look its best.

Use body lotion on your face

The skin on our face is a lot thinner than our bodies. The products designed for our bodies are much thicker and heavier and if they are used on face, it can lead to clogged pores and acne. Additionally, body care products have a lot more fragrances which our facial skin does not handle well. Our facial skin requires gentle and thinner products so that it is able to absorb and utilise it well. Avoid using body lotion on your face as this will cause a lot of skin issues in the future.
